Resto Druid Gear for 5.2

The following is the new gear available to Resto Druids in 5.2. It includes gear from the new raid, new reps and some new leatherworking patterns. I assume this list will also come in handy for Mistweaver Monks (though I haven’t included your tier pieces).

As always, this stuff is all from the PTR, so it may not be entirely accurate, things may be missing or it may change. I’ll try to keep it as up to date as possible. The drop locations of a few of the items is currently unknown, they are likely trash drops in Throne of Thunder.

I have listed 3 levels of loot in this list (LFR, Normal, Heroic). However, there are actually 5 different ilvls for all raid loot excluding Tier pieces (because things clearly needed to be more complex). Bosses in Throne of Thunder have a small chance to drop Thunderforged gear in normal and heroic modes (not in LFR). Thunderforged gear is 6 ilvls higher than it’s regular counterpart gear. So the new gear levels are:

  • 502 -LFR
  • 522 – Normal
  • 528 – Normal Thunderforged
  • 535 – Heroic
  • 541 – Heroic Thunderforged

Trinkets

If you’re looking for some analysis on the new trinkets, check out Therya’s very detailed post. Personally, my top choices are Horridon’s and Chalice. The absorbs from the other two sound nice, but I really don’t like Spirit-based trinkets (and Stolen Relic of Zuldazar will require a whole new click binding and I’m pretty much out of those).

Weapon

Juvenate has done a good analysis of 1-handed weapon drops in 5.2. A one-handed weapon plus off-hand is superior stat-wise, since off-hands get an extra Intellect enchant. However, there are only 2 off-hands available, and they come from the 10th and 12th bosses in the tier. If you pick up a nice 1H weapon, you could be stuck with your Feng offhand for a while. It might be worth it to pick up a staff (or the 2H mace, depending on where it drops) if you get the chance.

Item iLevel Location
Saurok Ritualist’s Sacrificial Dagger (1H dagger) 476 ??
Lightning Snare (1H mace) 476 ??

Resto Druid Gear – What to Wear in 4.3

When 4.3 came out I posted a list of all the new gear available in 4.3 (which was just updated yesterday). But what gear should you be aiming for? What do you need from raids and where should you be spending your valor points first?

Normal Mode Dragon Soul

Here’s a good gear set to aim for if you currently have access to normal mode raids:

Helm – Deep Earth Helm (Dragon Soul – Warmaster Blackhorn)
Shoulders – Deep Earth Mantle (Dragon Soul – Hagara)
Chest – Deep Earth Robes (Dragon Soul – Ultraxion)
Wrists – Bracers of Flowing Serenity (crafted)
Hands – Fungus-Born Gloves (Valor vendor)
Waist – Girdle of the Grotesque (Dragon Soul – Hagara)
Legs – Deep Earth Legwraps (Dragon Soul – Yo’sahj)
Feet – Boots of Fungoid Growth (Valor vendor)
Neck – Petrified Fungal Growth (Dragon Soul – Morchok)
Back – Woundlicker Cover (Valor vendor)
Ring 1 – Ring of the Riven (Dragon Soul – Hagara)
Ring 2 – Signet of Suturing (Dragon Soul – random boss drop)
Trinket 1 – Seal of the Seven Signs (Dragon Soul – Warlord Zon’ozz)
Trinket 2 – see note below*
Relic – Lightning Spirit in a Bottle (Valor vendor)
Weapon – Maw of the Dragonlord (Dragon Soul – Madness of Deathwing)
Offhand – Ledger of Revolting Rituals (Dragon Soul – Ultraxion)

*There are a number of options for your 2nd trinket. For those who favour output over regen (like me!), go with Windward Heart (Dragon Soul – random boss drop). If you’re more into regen, go for Heart of the Unliving (Dragon Soul – Spine of Deathwing). It’s a sizable loss of Intellect, but 880 spirit not something to overlook if you’re having mana issues. Alternatively, if you have heroic Jaws of Defeat (Firelands – Majordomo) it’s still a very strong option, providing both a large amount of Intellect and mana savings.

Hard Mode Dragon Soul

Once you start killing heroic Dragon Soul bosses, you’ll want to upgrade all of your valor and crafted gear to the heroic raid gear. Even if the secondary stats on the valor gear look stronger, the extra Intellect that comes from the better ilvl will always be worth it.

Upgrades from the normal mode list:

Wrists – Mycosynth Wristguards (Heroic Morchok)
Hands – Deep Earth Handwraps (Heroic Warlord Zon’ozz)
Feet – Treads of Sordid Screams (Heroic Ultraxion)

Valor Gear

Valor points burning a hole in your pockets? The first upgrade to get is the Woundlicker Cover for 1250 points. It’s really the only cloak option, so you may as well get this one first.

After that, just upgrade your lowest ilvl pieces. Good choices will likely be Boots of Fungoid Growth (1650 points) since the boots in Firelands were poorly itemized or the Lightning Spirit in a Bottle (700 points) if you’re still using one of the ilvl 378 relics.

Resto Druid BiS List – all leather edition

All WotLK raid content has been released and we’ve got nothing left to do but kill it over and over and over again until Cataclysm comes out. Now is as good a time as any to make my final best in slot list.

When Wrath raiding wraps up, I’d like my druid to look just like this. I’ve got 6 of the 16 pieces right now. Not a bad start.

Here’s the full list of what I consider to be best in slot for a resto druid with access to 25-man hard modes.

WeaponTrauma (Rotface 25H) My opinion on Trauma has certainly changed over the last few months. Originally I thought it would be impossible to make up the haste I’d miss out on by using this, but it’s not too hard at all. The proc is great and can provide up to 10% of my healing on fights like Sindragosa.

OffhandSundial of Eternal Dusk (Sindragosa 25H)

HeadSanctified Lasherweave Helmet – Though T10 is rather heavy on crit as opposed to haste, the 4-set bonus is well worth getting.

NeckBone Sentinel’s Amulet (Marrowgar 25H)

ShouldersShoulders of Frost-Tipped Thorns (Blood Prince Council 25H) *

CloakGreatcloak of the Turned Champion (Deathbringer Saurfang 25H)

ChestSanctified Lasherweave Robes *

WristsPhaseshifter’s Bracers (Halion 25H) – Leather spell power bracers are a myth.

GlovesSanctified Lasherweave Gauntlets

WaistProfessor’s Bloodied Smock – Professor Putricide 25H

LegsSanctified Lasherweave Legplates

BootsBoots of Unnatural Growth (Gunship Battle 25H) *

Ring 1Ashen Band of Endless Wisdom (ICC Rep Ring)

Ring 2Memory of Malygos (Sindragosa 25H)

Trinket 1Althor’s Abacus (Gunship Battle 25H) – The proc on this provides only 2-3% of my healing on most fights, but since it’s a smart heal it’s always useful. The nice chunk of spell power is where this trinket really shines.

Trinket 2Solace of the Defeated (Lord Jaraxxus 25H – ToTC). 168 spell power and 144 mp5 which should stay up all the time. With this trinket I find mana a non-issue on most fights which makes me unwilling to give it up. Glowing Twilight Scale would provide a lot more spell power, but I’m not a fan of on-use trinkets (even though from what I’ve read, the use effect provides a huge amount of healing). I can’t really recommend this over Solace until I’ve tried it out.

IdolIdol of the Black Widow (Frost Emblem vendor)

4.0.1 Edit: Ignore the following. With the leather specialization in play, we should never wear cloth.
* Note: If you are not adverse to wearing cloth, Sanguine Silk Robes (Blood Princes 25H) are slightly better itemized than the T10 chest. If you wear them with the T10 shoulders you will gain 13 spell power, 4 haste and 4 mp5 while casting at the cost of 26 crit rating (dependent on how you gem of course). Plague Scientist’s Boots are also an option, you’d gain spell power (as most reckless ametrines could be traded out for runed cardinal rubies) at the cost of crit and mana regen.

Now, I’ll admit that I have a few hang-ups when it comes to gear. I know there are people who disagree with me on some of these things, but I am far too stubborn to change.

  1. I hate seeing mp5 on gear. The only mp5 piece I wear is the Ashen Band of Endless Wisdom, and it’s only because of the nice spell power proc.
  2. I always gem for socket bonuses. I like when things match and the missing socket bonuses are an eyesore. Luckily most of the socket bonuses in resto druid gear are fairly good, and I need the haste from the yellow sockets anyway.
  3. I’m not overly concerned with being right at the haste cap. The setup I’ve listed here would give me 845 haste. I could replace a Reckless Ametrine with a Quick King’s Amber to bring me up to 855, but I don’t think I would ever be able to tell the difference in a raid.
  4. I will not wear cloth. I’m a complete snob about this – cloth is for priests. I am a proud leather-wearer.

Fun with Trinket Procs

That is not proper raiding attire, Mr. Vrykul. But thanks for the agility!
