Where are all the hunter posts?

When I started this blog it was meant to be about both druids and hunters. Unfortunately, the hunter side of the blog has been quite neglected. I have some trepidation about writing hunter posts. It basically comes down to healing being an art and dps being a science. With my resto druid, I am extremely confident in how I gear, gem, spec and play. Although I enjoy reading about the playstyles and choices of other druids, I have no fear of someone coming to my blog and telling me I’m wrong. For my hunter, I feel very differently. I think I’m a competent hunter and make decent gear and spec choices, but I am by no means min/maxed to the extreme. This is partly because I don’t get to raid on my hunter enough, so I don’t get access to all the gear and emblems I need very quickly (and I’d rather poke myself in the eye than run random heroics every day). With dps there is certainly a right and a wrong way of doing things. I’m worried that I’ll write a hunter post and then some theorycrafter will read it or look at my armory, whip out their fancy math and beat me with it.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been working on testing out when deterrence works in ICC. Then the other day I found this on Elitist Jerks. Sigh. I think I’ll probably make a post about it anyway as, based on the search terms people are using to find my blog, a lot of people are confused about when Deterrence works.

Deterrence is awesome- I found that thread to be very enlightening, if somewhat hard to read. The most important thing I've used it for is on festergut, but only when I think it's needed.

    • I'll try to write more!

What abilities do you use Deterrence for on Festergut? I haven't found anywhere it works.

      • It won't save you from the entirety of the pungent blight he does, but you can reduce it I think.

        • I'm kind of embarrassed to say that Festergut is the one fight where I go "omg, big numbers! must push damage buttons only and beat all the melee!" and I haven't tried to deterrence the blight.

  2. Eh…if you are a bit uncomfortable on the theorycrafting side of hunters, why not just write about your experiences? šŸ™‚ I love reading about experiences!

Having someone disagree with you happens to everyone, and I got my feathers a little ruffled at a commenter (who I'm pretty sure is now like "screw you lady"), but I certainly wouldn't shy away from it! I am positive that you have a lot of tips and tricks that you could offer to other hunters who perhaps lack your experiences. If you are uncomfortable with the "science" of DPS numbers, shy away from those posts. But there is *alot* to learn about DPS that doesn't involve numbers! (Like…HELLO STAY OUT OF THE FIRE!) šŸ™‚

    • lol, Stay out of the Fire, and Don't Die are common themes in my posts. I just need to try a little harder to come up with hunter topics. Playing my hunter more wouldn't hurt either.

I'm not afraid of people disagreeing with me, I just feel better equipped to back up my statements about druids than hunters. I know that there are still going to be people who disagree either way (like your feather-ruffling commenter).

      Thanks for the encouragment.

  3. I had been meaning to test Deterrence in ICC as well (I love Deterrence) but always felt really nervous about possibly killing myself just to test something for the sake of blogging, haha. That list is humbling, and great. Time to put some of those tests to work!

    • That's the reason why it's taken me so long to test these things myself. It's okay on farm fights, but for progression I think my raid would be a little upset if I was messing around with Deterrence testing rather than doing my job.

  4. I think dps is both science and art. I do think people focus on the science aspect a little too much at times (myself included) — or they focus on just one aspect of the science (spreadsheets) without considering all the other factors that contribute to your dps.

So yes, more hunter posts please šŸ™‚

    • I will do my best. I've got some ideas just need to actually write them down.

I used to be quite avid about using spreadsheets or Rawr to optimize, but I got a little bored of them and wanted to try out thinking for myself.

  5. That thread over at EJ's is all over the place but quite informative once you get everything together. Would be great to see a consolidated article on it.
Don't worry about what people say. Just post your own posts the way that you want them.

    • I'm working on it. Just want to test a few more things myself before posting. It should be up soon though and will certainly be in a more easy to read format.
