I’m a little late to this party, but here’s my response to Miss Medicina’s Healer Questionnaire. Figured it would make a good first blog post, so here we go!
What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer?
Jasyla, resto druid
What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans)
Mainly raiding, both 10s and 25s
What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why?
Rejuvenation. Nothing makes me happier than seeing HoT ticks popping up all over my screen. Especially when they crit! Also paves the way for my second favorite spell, Swiftmend.
What healing spell do you use least for your class and why?
Healing Touch. Never even tried the glyphed HT thing. Reminded me too much of spamming rank 4 HT in Zul’Gurub and Molten Core. Right now HT gets used maybe twice a raid, in combination with Nature’s Swiftness.
What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why?
Sheer volume of heals. I think druids are best at spreading the healing love to as many people as possible.
What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your healing class and why?
No big tank-saving or damage reduction ability. This was very noticeable at the beginning of Wrath, but doesn’t seem like too much of a deficit at this point.
In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you?
My guild doesn’t really do healing assignments on most fights. Each healer knows what they’re best at and does it. I like to be free to heal everyone.
What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why?
Disc priests. Their damage reducing abilities makes everyone else’s jobs easier.
What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why?
I don’t really like playing with other druids. Especially when they don’t have Glyph of Swiftmend. Grr.
What is your worst habit as a healer?
Overwriting HoTs. Not something I do often, but occasionally when there isn’t enough damage to heal my OCD gets the best of me.
What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing?
I hate being told what to do, especially what spells to cast. Being told by a pug raid leader “roll HoTs on the tank and heal the raid,” like I’ve never healed as a druid before really gets under my skin.
Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing?
I do. I think we’re extremely well balanced and have the ability to alter our healing style to fit best with whoever we heal with and adjust for all types of fights.
What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer?
1. Did we kill the boss?
2. Is anyone dead?
3. Could I have prevented their death, or did they stand in a fire for 8 seconds?
I also make extensive use of World of Logs. I like to check what my spell breakdown is and see how much healing I did overall. I also really like being able to go through the combat log when someone dies and find out exactly what happened to them and see if there was something I could have done differently to save them.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class?
I haven’t really run into too many people with misconceptions. I do hear “You probably should stay out of tree form on this fight because you need to move fast” every once in a while though. Seriously.
What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn?
I think it can be difficult to keep up with all the changes to our class. When you’re not totally familiar with druids small changes that get made every patch that make certain spells or glyphs better or worse can be easy to miss.
If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via recount, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)?
High healing output, tend to be first on most fights, sometimes get overtaken by a pally or two. There’s a fair bit of overheal from all my HoTs, but little overheal on things like Swiftmend and Nourish. In most fights, I will likely have healed everyone in the raid to some degree. In terms of spell breakdown, the order seems to go Rejuv, WG, Regrowth, Nourish, Swiftmend on most fights. Lifebloom sees very little use unless I’m bored and feel the need to click more buttons.
Haste or Crit and why?
I like a balance. I’m still using my 4t9 bonus so some extra crit is nice. However, with the change to GotEM, I’m trying to stack some extra haste now.
What healing class do you feel you understand least?
Priest and Pally. I know the basics, but I won’t say I understand a class until I’ve played it at max level.
What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing?
Grid plus Clique. Also have a number of Grid modules like: mana bars, incoming heals, HoT tracker, raid debuffs. Can’t imagine healing without them now. I think the only macro I have is one for NS + HT.
Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why?
Spell power is my main stat that I like to stack. After that, I go for a balance. I tend to shy away from mp5 and go for spirit instead.
